Again we set off at 7.45 am, and
climbed steadily through alpine pastures, then rock scree. We were
certainly noticing the effects of the altitude.
We had to crawl up through loose dirt and rock to reach a knife edged ridge, Cuello de Tebarrai
(The pass you can see on the left of the above photo). At 2,782m it was the highest point we reached on the GR11. It was cold too, we didn't linger here. There were some small patches of snow here and there. Working down the other side was even scarier. Jim kindly took my pack down the first steep drop.

We contoured around a lake to Cuello de
L'Infierno (2,721m) and then worked our way down an alpine valley.
At a lake, Ibonde Bachimana Alto, we decided to leave the traditional
GR11 route and take a higher "short cut" heading towards
the Letrero Pass. This avoided a very steep descent, then a climb
again.
We arrived at our campsite at the eastern end of Embalse de Bramatuero Braxo at 3.30 pm. This was our highest campsite so far at 2,300m. The terrain was very arid - fortunately we found a small stream for water. It was cooler too - I needed to wear my raincoat because of the wind. Today we covered about 11 km in 7 hours 45 minutes.
