Day 6 - 19 August: Zuriza to La Mina

This was the first day of being in the high Pyrenees, and what scenery!

We set off earlier, at 7.30 am to try and beat the heat of the day.  Above us to our right was a series of craggy limestone peaks.

Climbing up through grassy pasture ...

.... to reach Cuello de Petraficha, 1961m, our highest point so far

Then it was a 700m drop down to the valley below.  Our guide book described a water fountain and we were very hot and thirsty.  We struggled along a gravel road to reach this wonderful sight - our only drinkable water supply all day - and delicious ice cold water too.  So many cows and other farm animals made any streams unsafe to drink from. We camped in the valley below this fountain.  Cows with bells on wandered past our tents in the evening.

14 km, 8 1/2 hours
